Budget Bill Debate, Infuriated
I am watching the California State Assembly debate AB 1781, Budget Act of 2008, on http://www.calchannel.com/.
I am infuriated by some members of the Assembly, particularly the current Republicans who seem 100% committed to fulfilling an anti-tax pledge to Grover Norquist. What kind of joke is that? Our representatives should be responsible to the people of their district and the people of California, not Grover Norquist.
As an assemblymember just stated, the current Republicans are the party of cut and run. Republicans cut taxes when times are good and run from accountability when times are bad. Republicans need to offer a counter-proposal, not continue to complain that one of their ideas was voted down and can do nothing more. Honestly?

So these republicans don’t think perhaps that they ARE representing their constituencies who ELECTED them to office when the said that they would not raise their taxes during the campaign?
I agree with your argument sir, but your tactics need some work. Republicans may have a different philosophy than us, but if you ask them I am sure they would say that they ARE representing the people who elected them to come to the Assembly.
If you really want a solution to our problems I suggest you looking towards redistricting reform, which is opposed by the Democrats in the legislature (See the CCOPA’s donations to Perata). Gerrymandering leads to safe districts where only extreme opinions can win in primaries and face no opposition in the general election. If we want compromise (Not the reeps getting their way and not the Liberal-Hippy Dems we have in the legislature now getting theirs) we need redistricting reform to bring more moderate members to the legislature who both are willing and have incentive to compromise.
I apologize that I must remain anonymous.
